Originally composed for and dedicated to Henry J. Wood on the occasion of his Jubilee in grateful recognition of his services to music by Vaughan Williams. This charming serenade is set to the words from Act five scene one of Shakespeare's The Merchant Of Venice. It may be sung with four soloists - SATB with Chorus or all the solo parts may be sung in chorus.

This engaging work was composed in 1929 and premiered the following year by its dedicatee the legendary Spanish cellist Pablo Casals.
