In general- they are compact, easy to use, and keep the reed against a flat surface as it dries out. Generally this prevents the reed from warping, especially over the box-type reed holder. Also helps to reduce the clutter that ends up in the typical case.
Only downsides are in the case of mis-use- if you get the angle wrong and don't pay attention when putting the reed back in, it will wreck the reed in short order!
Also, the Rico produced ones seem to be a little tighter, which in the case of using it for Alto Sax reeds, results in the last 3-4 mm of reed sticking out of the back of the holder. While this is not the doing-stuff end of the reed, if you get a knock on the back of the reed (from a carelessly unrestrained lyre for example..... don't ask) then it will not sit flat when held against the reed table.
In 15 years of owning La Voz, and 4 of owning Rico, I've yet to have one break!
Overall, very good, and I would highly recommend them!
