I'm not too concerned about appearance. However, this little guitar looks great. I like how it's understated and simple looking. It's sound hole design is simple and pretty. No flashiness on this guitar, which is the way I like it.
Yep, the gig bag is kinda flimsy, so I got a more padded one for traveling. No big deal. The one it comes with is good enough for dragging it around in normal situations though, and it fits right into the padded one I have, so if need be, I can use both.
Overall, I couldn't have asked for a better deal. And, like others have said..... This is the guitar I play all the time now. It's just too easy to carry around, and fits well in the lap for noodling and relaxing, even in an armchair. Intonation is spot on, as I tested it with a Snark clip-on tuner. I was hoping for a bit slimmer of a neck, especially at the nut (even though I have big hands), but I am not altogether put off by it. It still fits my hand well. 1) Make sure they have markers on the neck that are visable not only to the student but to the teacher also. This makes it easyier to monitor the students finger position on the neck and fretts. The Martin only had markers on the topside of the neck.
2) Get a smaller body guitar so when the student (adult or child)tilts the guitar towards them to better see the finger placement the smaller body does not slide off your lap.
3) Don't pay a lot for the guitar because no matter what make and model it is you will lose money trying to sell it if they quit playing or decide it is not ment for them.
4) After tuning the guitar monitor how well it stays in tune. This will tell you if the guitar has quiality keys.
5) Purchase some good quality light or ultra light stings because heavier strings will be harder on the finger tips of a begginer.
After following his advice I chose this guitar and happy I did. After changing the strings and setting the hieght of the strings with the supplied allen wrench I tuned the guitar. This guitar is easy to play and has a full sound. People who wrote about frett buzz must have lowered the neck too much because I had no problems with that. The next day the guitar was some what out of tune but that was because of the new strings. Now that it is a few days old it is staying in tune. When playing bar chords the Martin is easier to play but a beginner will not have too worry about this for some time. This guitar is some what louder than the Martin but not by much. The gig bag is really cheap. I would suggest getting a heavier padded bag if you will take the guitar on trips. I would rcomend this guitar for beginers or a travel guitar with no reservation. Even if my grandson losses intrest I will keep the guitar to have an extra one for when freinds come over and want to jam. Hope this was helpful.
I don't think any player would be disappointed in this instrument for the price. Also, I'd like to note, having taught several kids their first chords, this would make for a great beginners guitar. It's smaller size makes it easily comfortable to play for smaller hands.
This is NOT a Taylor or a Gibson! But for your dollars it is a well built quality sounding instrument akin to the tone of a smaller parlor guitar.
I give Luna Safari 4/5 stars.
