I do a lot of solo (un-mic'd) acoustic piano singing gigs and sometimes never know the condition of what the house sound system is (or if any is available). Place one of these in a small rolling duffel bag (for the KC-110 and related patch cords)... and you're covered. Has 2 (treble and bass) tone knobs so it gives enough tone control. Electric keyboards/synths are pre-EQ'd anyway and a decent Mic will not need much (if any) tweaking tonewise. All my piano/synth patches sound very balanced and clear (low - high keys) and vocals have no coloration to distract from your act.
I used it for electronic keyboard happy hours, retirement home piano gigs, etc... where you only need to accurately fill a small to medium sized room with live music. Even played sequenced MIDI tunes on a Roland Juno Stage synth for about 150 people in a downstairs clubhouse. Of course, and realistically, if you gig every week next to a 100 watt Marshall guitar god... you can't rock out with 30 watts (20 watts on batteries). Yet the KC-110 will pack a nice punch for a 16 pound amp. Really! Also, I played through several acoustic electric guitars (including an Ibanez Talmon)... and they have great, uncolored, clear & natural tones.
In a lot of applications it works great as an onstage mixer, or for practices. Add a pair of external powered satellite speakers and even use it as a submixer for duos. I now leave my rolling 4-space rack and related chords at home when I utilize satellite speakers (Mackie Thump 15's). Using the KC-110 by itself adds flexibility for the multitasking keyboardist. Need to practice with a vocalist at their place? The KC-110 saves your back. Basic unit size is 12.5" x 16" x 10. Weighs in at exactly 16 lbs & 6 ounces (without power supply)... so it's pretty close to the actual Roland specs (some always wonder if specs are shipping or actual size/dimensions).
PLEASE NOTE:
- Adjusting the (single) FX "knob" affects ALL channels equally (there's no individual FX level for each channel). Might be a deal-killer for some.
- The reverb/chorus is very basic. For vocals, I use an affordable TC Helicon Microphone Mechanic (has verbs/echos & AUTO CORRECT)
- This amp takes the proprietary Roland (and Ultimate Support Systems) 1.5" speaker stands. Since I had extra lightweight Ultimate support stands available it wasn't a big deal. YOU CAN ALSO purchase a speaker stand adapter (as one reviewer referenced a weblink to) for just a few dollars. Saves you from purchasing another tripod stand if you already have the smaller (1 3/8" diameter) stands. I even carry an adapter so I can use the house speaker stand (saving me an extra trip to the car).
Saw the KC-110 several years ago, but never had a reason to buy one. Now that I do a lot of solo piano (and often with singing and/or for making announcements) type of gigs, the KC-110 fills the bill nicely!! Makes a great (high quality) battery-powered mini PA system for those remote outdoor wedding events and such.
mixer and problem solved or use small mixer on 110v. True. Don't
like reverb it's bad quality.True. Sounds great with my Casio
px-5s and plenty of sound Ordered boss ve2 battery operated
vocal processor that should give quality vocals through this amp. 20 watts
when on battery and can use condenser mike (sennheiser e945 best mike ever for money)
All of this for good sound without 110v. Main system is ev powered
speakers, custom bass cabinet, allen & heath zed 10 fx mixer. tc- voice libe play
e945, Casio px-5s. epiphone master built acoustic. Hope this helpd.
I can say after owning the amp, that even if it worked as advertised, I would not pay more then $150/200 tops. Add it to the list of keyboard amps that miss the mark. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS AMP! Your better off buying a used powered PA speaker then this thing.
The first thing that struck me when I opened the box was the heft and solid feel. I felt so good paying a little more for this Roland to get such a good quality product.
I placed this speaker in a cabinet under my TV. My intent was to create direct sound in the room, that goes directly from the speakers to my ears, to compensate for the irritating small rear facing speakers of the thin TV. I connected the left-right RCA cables from the TV to the Roland. Setting the Roland to max input sensitivity and 2/3 volume, and the TV to variable audio output, allows me to use the TV remote to change the volume. Roland even automatically turns itself on and off by sensing the signal in the audio cables. Perfect, just set it up once and forget it.
I use the provided power converter. There is also a battery compartment if you need to take the Roland for events in the field. The speakers are efficient, the max of 30 Watts is plenty. There is some sort of hole/interface on the bottom of the unit to be able to stick this on a tripod but I have not used that feature. There are plenty of inputs and controls for variety of applications.
This Roland is not a ground shaker. It simply creates a natural sound. You don't even notice it's there, which is the way I like it. Thanks to this Roland, I have been enjoying my new TV for a few months now, and look forward to many years ahead.
