The 218 is my go-to slide for electric guitar. This is a very personal decision, and I like the smooth feel and tone of glass, and the mass is low enough that it's easy to move quickly, but high enough to give great sustain. It covers about 4 strings, enough for lead playing.
If you're new to slide guitar and looking for some free advice, here's mine:
1. Get one metal and one glass slide. I suggest the 213 or 218 for glass, and the 231 brass slide for metal. The 231 has curved sides that better match the fretboard radius of a round neck guitar.
2. Get a clip-on tuner if you don't already have one. It can set you back as little as $10 and makes it easy to get into an open tuning
3. Tune your guitar to an "open tuning". It's easy with a digital tuner. Start with open G (DGDGBD) - it's a blast.
4. Do a web search for videos on "open G tuning" as a way to get started
The Dunlop 218 won by a mile for me. Size is great for my hands, tone/attack/feel is exactly what I wanted.
They don't do well on the 'bounce test', lol, so have a couple on hand if you're playing live on a hard surface (cement, wood, tile, unpadded outdoor carpet).
