The first pieces use only open strings both pizzicato and bowed: here the cellist gains experience in counting rests as well as exploring the four strings. From pieces 4 to 9 the fingers are brought into play starting with the first finger only until all four are used. The pieces in the second half of the book allow the cellist to explore a variety of jazz styles. A piano accompaniment part is included for concert performances.
