These pieces are secular and a suitable contrast to the aequale and other 19th century trombone genres. The arrangements are relatively short and pitched so as not to over-tax the players lips. They also share around the thematic material giving interest to each part. Because of their relative brevity, several or all of them, could be played as a sequence in a performance.
