In his work based on the well-known text for Christmas, Gary Davison uses a blend of consonance and dissonance within the key of e minor to evoke an intimate portrait of the Child Jesus. Subtle meter changes enable the text to flow freely. This setting finds its strength in the homophonic texture and the harmonic tension found between equally balanced voice parts.
