Product Description
Dozens of applications for this extremely useful mixer at a very affordable price
The Nady MM-242 allows you to easily combine mono or stereo signals together and adjust their relative volumes. Ideal for DJ equipment, synths and guitar rigs, studio, stage, the MM-242 is a great tool to have around everywhere. Mono/stereo mode selector switch determines whether all 8 inputs are mixed to both 1/4" outputs or are preserved as stereo signals, so you have greater flexibility and mixing options. It seems solidly built -- sturdy, made of metal, a little heavier than I expected for its size, with smooth-moving knobs. I haven't had it long but by the feel expect it to last. (I'll update my review if not.)
Prior to getting the Nady we used an old mini-mixer but it didn't have volume adjustments for each input, which is why I bought the Nady. That feature is very handy, and it lets us compensate for the varying input levels from mics, guitars, and keyboard -- it was a big improvement. I also like that it can be battery-powered so we don't need another cord or outlet. And it has an "on" light -- our old mini-mixer didn't so it was easy to forget to turn it off.
Some reviewers, especially at some music websites, complained about the Nady's noise level under AC power. I can't address that as we only use it on battery, but in that mode noise is not a problem at all. We get more white noise from our amp; the Nady didn't add any that we could notice.
Prior to purchase I researched at a lot of small mixers online. Many seemed to be higher quality and at higher cost, but either they didn't have as many inputs, or they didn't have individual volume controls, and/or they required AC power. That's why I decided on the Nady. I'm glad I did. So far it's everything we wanted at a good price. I'm very pleased with the purchase.
UPDATE: 8/12/12
I've been using the mixer for two months and am very satisfied with it. I use it exclusively in mono mode because we generally feed six inputs to it (mostly microphones) and it works great. I still like the individual volume controls.
I've had no problem with added noise. Some of my input gains are set to maximum, and the output volume is usually between 6 - 8 (out of 10), and there's no appreciable noise. As I said previously we power it only by battery so results could differ with a power adapter.
Speaking of battery, the first 9v I put in lasted two months, using it about five hours once a week. Figure 40 hours or so. That's with 4 - 6 inputs and gains/volume on the high side. One minor issue: the "on" light stayed lit even after the battery was too weak to function properly. We were performing for a small group and suddenly our mics lost almost all volume. The Nady power light looked normal so at first I thought it was a loose cable. After eliminating other issues I replaced the battery everything worked fine.
I'm careful with equipment so it's been handled gently, but it feels sturdy and expect it to last a long time.
I also found tech support to be friendly and responsive.
But as a line level mixer, it works great. I use it to create a monitor mix when I'm doing multi-track location recording, and I have not noticed any added noise from this unit. I love that it runs off of a battery because that allows me to run my complete rig on battery power if I want. It is better built and smaller than I expected, both good things.
Note the main picture shown is for an older version. The MM-242 now looks like the second photo.
This mixer works for my application. Can't complain about the price, either.

Update:
My son just educated me on the rating issue. When people's good reviews include the term "...for the price" it means "better than I thought for a cheap piece of junk."
