As other reviewers have mentioned, they will have to be sanded to fit. I used an old nail file. It did take awhile but eventually they all fit nicely and the guitar has something subtle but nice to make it all the more appealing to pick up and play.

model number). Each pin fit easily and exactly into the holes of the bridge and feels very solid in their
place. Indeed, the ebony pin measurements provided on this page are correct. A refreshing discovery
to say the least.
I had been using plastic pins all these years and thought this move might give my old guitar a different
tone. I can’t say there was a huge difference in the sound after installation. There seems to be a bit
more crispness in the tone but nothing jaw dropping. This may be due the use of Phosphor Bronze
light strings on the Kay. Phosphor Bronze strings sit in the middle of the string tone spectrum of
bright to mellow.
Indeed your mileage may vary depend upon a variety of factors when you install these nice little pins.
They are not that much of an investment and could possibly provide a bit more sustain and crispness
to your acoustic tone. Indeed, you may want to replace the plastic saddle as well if you intend to get
more out of your acoustic. Replacing your plastic saddle with a bone or TUSQ saddle is the cheapest
after-market procedure you can do.
Nearly every guitar in the higher price range, $2000 plus, will come with a bone or TUSQ saddle and
nut as the standard material. Bone/TUSQ can increase clarity and sustain and provides a much more
“focused" high end and a punchier low end. Plastic saddles can make the guitar shrill. Also, bone will
long outlast the factory installed plastic saddles. From what I understand replacing the nut does not
result in any uptick in perceptible tone or sustain but a bone nut will last much longer. Anyway…
5 Stars for the pins doing what they are supposed to do and adding just a bit of crispy tone to my
high end and the low end of an old acoustic. Next up will be to craft a bone saddle…
I ordered these oversized ones because the factory pins were a bit undersized and difficult to remove, but also for some increased tonal 'snap' and sustain.
As far as density (in descending order), it goes: Brass, Bone/Ivory, Wood, and then Plastic. These added the right amount of clearance for using a bridge pin puller, a tighter fit, and they look great. There are a few different methods for custom fitting these (check YouTube), and it's easy to do.
The ebony is good quality on these, and with some typical shaving needed for a custom fit, they're perfect.
As far as the difference in tone they provide - it's subtle but noticeable. More sustain, more brightness, and due to the hardness of the ebony, there's less risk of causing damage to my bridge plate than with easily worn plastic ones.
They're also a good value, and the quality is consistent from pin to pin.

These pins arrived as described. They are all uniform, and the abalone and brass inset are striking. In spite of what reviewer posted, I have no doubt that these are ebony. As one other person said, they seem to be a bit loose a fit for the bridge hole, and I would have to agree. I'd say they need to be about 0.5 millimetres bigger in diameter. There is no effort required at putting them in their respective holes, they literally just drop in - and it shouldn't be that way. A minimum amount of force should be required to properly seat the pin once the string ball is in place. Until the strings are tighten to pitch, the pins can actually be pulled out at any stage - and it should not be that way either.
I have them in now, with new strings, and so far so good. My recommendation though would be to mill them 0.5 millimetres. larger in diameter. If they don't work out, I'll likely try the authentic Martin pins as they will no doubt fit. I've read elsewhere that the Taylor pins also fit properly in a Martin.
