Big warning if you intend to use with Protec French Horn Screw Bell Case
UPDATED REVIEW.Am updating original review below. Downgraded from 4 stars to 1 star. Would give zero star if I could for design and customer service.I sent a support request to Protec via their website describing the problem. The acknowledgement said I should receive a reply in one business day. It's been about two weeks and nothing from them. An excerpt from my report to them:>>We are having problems with the Protec Padded Backpack Strap accidentally releasing when used with the Protec French Horn Screw Bell IPAC Deluxe Case. .... In the past week she has been using the combination, the strap's release has accidentally unlatched three times and the case fell to the floor. One of those times happened when I simply picked up the case by the backstrap. The third time happened tonight after her concert performance. She put the case on her back, the latch released, and the case fell to the floor.I'm an engineer and after the second failure, I looked at the different ways to attach the strap to the case. No matter how I attach it, very little inadvertent pressure is needed for it to release. Almost every time I picked up the case by grabbing near the top of the strap and picking up, it released. .... There just isn't enough friction.to secure the latch.<<<I almost returned the strap and the case for a refund but then what? It's a great case but a terrible strap latch. So I decided to come up with a workable solution. Hence the picture. After securing the latch, I looped a carabiner through the opening. It holds the latch in place so that it cannot accidentally release. Perfect. It's easy to remove the carabiner when needed. This carabiner is about 2" long and the rod dimension is about 3/8".ORIGINAL REVIEWBought this in conjunction with Protec French Horn Screw Bell IPAC Case - Deluxe, Model PB316SBDLX for my daughter. It's a great case anyway, but the extra cost of the strap is worth it. It makes it SO much easier for to carry her horn it to practice, to school, on trips, etc., and frees up a hand to carry other things.Which case loop to use? What is important to note when using it with this particular Protec case is to slide the fastener through the smaller fixed loop on the back of the case, NOT the larger loop formed by a velcro strap (which is intended to hold the optional trolley). See "con" below for why this is important.Con: Took off a star as another reviewer did because the fastener doesn't lock securely. It slides into a locked position but, with a little accidental pressure, it can easily slide and unlock. I picked the case up off the floor by the strap and apparently provided that wrong pressure. The fastener unlocked, the strap released, and the case immediately fell to the ground. After studying the situation, I realized that we used the wrong loop to hold the fastener. (see note above). However, even if we used the right loop, the fastener could still easily unlock. However, that smaller loop provides enough friction to temporarily. prevent the strap from fully releasing. Temporarily. I'd be happier if the fastener only unlocked with intentional pressure, not accidental pressure.
