The utility for configuring the controls is also quite useful, although many people will be able to use this right out of the box.
Seriously peeps, when I'm sitting in the middle of my Push2, Arturia Minilab3 and Keylab mkii, and Novation LaunchKey it's my LPD8 that I go to for doing my drum loops. Crazy! The control knobs are icing on the cake.
I'd give this thing 10 stars if I could!
The pad itself is easy to use and fun to play with. It is very durable although I did actually drop the device on the ground with the usb cable attached and the usb mini-a input came off of the board. After several failed attempts to solder it back onto the board I just decided to buy another one because they were so cheap. All of that said, it was my fault and the simple solution to all my problems would've been to unplug the device after use and set it in a secure spot away from ledges.
Now back to the device and software:
The LPD8 editor, albeit a little confusing at first, is still a very helpful tool for tweaking the settings of the pads so that if you want to use it in Garageband, it can be more easily accesible for drum use or even as a synthesizer.
The pads themselves and knobs are extremely useful and can be used for anything in a program like Ableton live 8. I had a blast creating music with my other midi keyboard and then adding delay effects to the track by programming the knobs to add different levels of delay or reverb to the tracks. The knobs are very responsive and durable.
Overall, this is an amazingly handy and fun device to get someone introduced to DJing or even just music creation and modification. It is important to note that although you can use a program like garageband with the LPD8, it really shines with Ableton Live 8 or Traktor.
The MK2 is a big upgrade over the original. It feels more solid, the pads are far more playable, and the knobs are a little taller and smoother. RGB is a nice bonus too.
Overall I recommend this if you just need a few extra controls with a minimum of bulk. The build quality is not up there with the old MPDs but it’s more than adequate for the price.
Porridge is to hot, too cold, bed is too whatever, just not the right fit.
The Akai LPD8 coupled with the NEKTAR GX 61 is perfect for me.
Really Happy about this.
Let me say that this Akai unit feels solid. Small is good here. The knobs feel nice, pads feel good. Fits perfectly with the Nektar controller I just purchase.
I am choosing to play with this without the editor. I did download the editor after playing with the unit within Cubase. It worked well as it learned the controls I want to manipulate. After downloading the Akai Librarian softare and made changes in my device menu, the Akai unit and Nektar were not responding. I didn't want to waste hours figuring out why, so I deleted the Libririan software.
Works good for now as I want to delve more in CC's ,program changes, assignments and banks.
The quality for the price point is quite satisfactory. I am content with how both units operate and I still have room on my desk while now back to a 61 key baby.
I'm ticked pink.
Thank you Akai, Nektar and Amazon.
Amazon, you are what we studied in business, a major category KILLER.
I'm okay with that as long as you carry my food items one day and air my cooking show!
Thanks!

The 8 pots are helpful as well, you can map them in your DAW to handle various functions. They are not "endless" style pots. They are accurate and silent, don't add unwanted noise when moving them around.
It's a little thicker thank I'd like, however the build quality feels high. It has rubber pads on the bottom of the controller so it doesn't slip when playing.
Instructions for mapping in a DAW are a weak spot. I've used this pad/controller with Acid 10, Cakewalk, FL Studio, MPC Beats and Roland Zenbeats without any major problems, but I had to manually map the controller or pots in every DAW except for MPC Beats.
This pad has managed to make me want to use it almost every day.

Não permite outros endereçamentos MIDI etc., etc...
