This specific mute that I purchased did in fact reduced the sound of my Cello by at least 50%, I was really impressed. HOWEVER, I noticed this mute was meant for Cellos with Skinnier bridges. Anyway, when I placed this mute on my cello I noticed that it wasn't perfectly on the bridge and it felt like the mute would fall on my instrument and crack or something. However, this has not happened yet, I have been playing with this mute at home in my apartment for several weeks and had no problem with the mute falling. Just prevent yourself from making big movements with your cello when moving or even playing. Furthermore, I asked my Cello Professor about this specific mute and he told me that this mute does reduce the sound of your instrument by half and his heavy metal mute didn't fit perfectly on his cello either even though his bridge was alot skinnier than mine, so he recommended me to push gently on the mute towards the bridge so that it fits, but I was to scared to do that, in fear of damaging my bridge. Overall, this mute has satisfied my playing needs as a Cellist.
