Patchwork, das 3. Streichquartett von Barbara Heller (Schott ED 20775), gibt es jetzt auch in der Version fur Streichorchester. Patchwork macht Freude mit seinem heiteren, luftigen und leichten Charakter. Spielerisch fliessende Figuren, haufig im pizzicato, wechseln sich mit stehenden Klangflachen ab. Als Tritonus-Studie von Heller konzipiert, besteht das Tonmaterial durchgehend aus Ganztonverhaltnissen. Die ungewohnte Klangfarbe des Tritonus erfordert daher eine prazise Intonation. Der Interpretation wird beim Tempo freier Raum gelassen: Patchwork kann im massigen Tempo statisch gespielt werden, aber auch rasch und witzig vorbeihuschen.
