The famous carol then gradually transforms back into the fanfare, which closes the work as it began.

A Christmas Herald, een openingswerk voor een kerstconcert, begint met een proclamerende fanfare. Deze fanfare introduceert een lyrisch thema, dat uiteindelijk uitmondt in een discant over Hark, the Herald Angels Sing,een melodie die achtereenvolgens wordt gepresenteerd door de trombones en euphoniums.
